Frequently asked questions

What is Nelos?

Nelos is an offline-first team communication and coordination app. It lets a small group send messages, share locations, and coordinate Need Help signals over a LoRa mesh network using Meshtastic-compatible devices — without mobile signal, accounts, or servers.

Do I need mobile signal?

No. Nelos is designed to work when cell and Wi-Fi are weak or unavailable. Your messages and locations travel over your LoRa mesh network, not the internet.

Do I need a LoRa device?

Yes. Nelos connects over Bluetooth to a Meshtastic-compatible LoRa node, which handles the actual radio transmission. Without a compatible device, the app cannot send or receive mesh messages.

Does Nelos replace emergency services?

No. Nelos is not a replacement for emergency services, satellite messengers, or professional rescue systems. It is a coordination tool for your own team when connectivity is limited. Always carry appropriate safety equipment and have a way to reach professional help.

Does Nelos collect my location?

Nelos uses your location only to show your position and to share it with team members you choose. Location is not collected or stored on any Nelos server. It is transmitted over your own mesh network only when you choose to share it. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Does Nelos share my location in the background?

Only if you turn it on. Background location sharing is off by default. When enabled, Nelos updates your location for your current team while the app is in the background — this works only while you are in a team and location sharing is on.

Updates are periodic, not continuous real-time tracking, and are sent only over your LoRa mesh device, never to a Nelos server. On Android you'll see a persistent notification while it's active. You can turn it off any time in Settings, and it may use more battery.

Which devices are supported?

Nelos works with Meshtastic-compatible LoRa devices that connect over Bluetooth. If you're unsure whether your device is supported, email support@nelos.app with the model and we'll help.

How do I report a bug?

For now, please email support@nelos.app using the bug report template below.

Including your device model, operating system version, Nelos version, LoRa device model, and steps to reproduce the issue helps us investigate faster.

An in-app feedback option is planned for a future release.
